Sturgis Titans take runner-up in home baseball rally

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Titans wrapped up the Sturgis Baseball Rally Sunday with a second place finish.

The Titans won two games earlier in the day to earn a chance at the championship against Winner/Colome.

The Titans beat Alliance, Nebraska 5-1 before edging out the Billings Expos 9-8.

In the championship, Sturgis lost to Winner 3-2. The Titans had a couple of throwing errors that cost them in the game, including a passed ball at home plate that allowed a Winner run to score.

Winner/Colome (6-1) finished with seven hits and were led by Ashton Klein, who went 2-for-4 and scored a run.  Sturgis Post 33 had four hits.  Beau Peters was 1-for-3 with a run and Owen Cass went 1-for-2.

The Titans (6-12) will play tonight at Spearfish Post 164. We’ll have that game for you tonight at 7:00 right here on the Big 81.
