STURGIS, S.D. – The city of Sturgis on Tuesday discussed a proposed site visit by representatives of AMA Pro Racing.
This follows a decision made at last year’s Post-Rally Summit that the city would give consideration to returning the tradition of sanctioned motorcycle racing at the Rally, specifically Main Street.
Sturgis Council President Beka Zerbst says they are optimistic about the idea, but also want to make sure it will work.
The visit, in conjunction with the Outerkind Agency, will take place September 11 and 12th. The agency will conduct controlled road tests, ride city streets both in and adjacent to the downtown corridor and meet with city staff as well as local business stakeholders.
Mayor Mark Carstensen says the objective is to further the vision of a Sturgis “street race.”
He says “this information will be used to create a comprehensive race event proposal for the city council’s consideration.”
