STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Ambulance Service will participate in national EMS week May 21 to 27 with a variety of activities planned.
Ambulance Service Director Shawn Fischer said EMS week is a chance to make citizens aware of what the ambulance service does.
“We hope our community will become more familiar with the Sturgis Ambulance Service, the services we provide, and the equipment we use to provide life-saving care,” she said. “It’s also a time to recognize and honor our frontline heroes, dedicated to providing emergency medicine that saves so many lives every day.”
This is the 48th annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in communities throughout the country. This year’s theme is EMS: Where Emergency Care Begins.
Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen proclaimed May 21-27 EMS Week in Sturgis saying that emergency medical services are a vital public service and members of our emergency medical teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“It’s a chance to recognize the value and the accomplishments of our emergency medical services providers,” he said.
