STURGIS, S.D. – In their daily Rally Report, the City of Sturgis reports 760 temporary vending licenses have been issued. That compares to 636 in 2019 – what the city considers their last ‘normal’ year.
Another sign this year’s rally is larger than previous year’s – nearly 44 tons of trash have been hauled out by the Sturgis Public Works Department. That is a 13.5-percent increase from the same time last year.
So far, 12,800 official cups have been delivered to outlets as of Tuesday morning.
A total of 32 COVID-19 at-home tests have also been requested since the Rally began. The city and Monument Health made those possible with the increase in the Delta Variant of the virus.
Sturgis Public Information Officer Christian Steele says Sturgis P.D. continues to educate people about the open container rules. Police have given out 360 warnings so far and there was one arrest on Monday.
Alcohol can only be consumed in a special event cup and within the boundaries of the open container area downtown Main Street.
The Sturgis Ambulance received 133 calls for service since Monday, August 2. This number compares to 101 in 2020 at this time.
