Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department warns residents of fundraising scam

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department sent out a scam warning this week after learning of a caller posing as a firefighter seeking money.

The Department is in the midst of their annual fundraising campaign in which they send a flyer out to residents and encourage mail in donations. They are not asking for donations via the telephone.

Fire officials say a fraudulent person is reportedly making phone calls to area residents posing as being from the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department.

Sturgis Fire Chief Scott Lensegrav says they are not and will not be soliciting donations via telephone and their mailer campaign is the only one they have underway at this time.
