Sturgis Wrestling cruises to Region 4A Title

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Region 4A Wrestling Tournament was held on Saturday in Spearfish.

Teams not only battled for a region title, but the top four finishers in each weight class qualified for the State ‘A’ wrestling tournament.

Sturgis captured the Region 4A title for the second year in a row with 303 points. Plus, the Scoopers advanced all 14 wrestlers to the state tournament.

Rapid City Stevens was second in the team standings with 224.5 and Rapid City Central was third with 208.

Sturgis crowned nine champions on the day. Here is how the Scoopers finished:

106 – Tyler Baldwin – 3rd
113 – Teryn Zebroski – 1st
120 – Benjamin Nadig – 2nd
126 – Tegan Zebroski – 1st
132 – Dee Daniels – 3rd
138 – Beau Peters – 1st
144 – Kalvin Ketelsen – 2nd
150 – Joseph Nadig – 1st
157 – Zhoel Irion – 2nd
165 – Preston Ray – 1st
175 – Kelson Dirk – 1st
190 – Aiden Werlinger – 1st
215 – Zak Juelfs – 1st
285 – Dakarai Osborne – 1st

Also, Philip / Kadoka Area / Wall (Badlands Brawlers) won the Region 4B wrestling title for the fifth time in the last six years. They won the team title with 265 points.

Custer was second with 239.5 and Bennett County finished third with 142.

The Brawlers crowned five champions with:

106 pounds – Gatlin Cordes, Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall

144 – Jace Blasius, Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall

150 – Ryker Peterson, Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall

157 – Kale Crowser, Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall

165 – Thane Simons, Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall
