PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota recorded an additional 19 COVID-19 related deaths Sunday, sending the statewide death toll to 1,110 since the pandemic started. There have been 164 deaths reported in December.
The number of new cases Sunday totaled 687 with 65 of them considered probable.
Active cases increased by 230 to 16,432 but the number of people hospitalized due to the virus dropped below 500 today to 497.
New cases across West River Sunday totaled 180.
Pennington County reported 71 new cases Sunday, sending the cumulative total to 9,349. There are 1,883 still considered active.
Meade County added 17 new cases for a total of 1,897 and 396 are active.
In Lawrence County, 16 new cases were reported for a total of 2,202 and 425 remain active.
Other new cases across West River counties Sunday included 13 in Oglala Lakota, 9 each in Perkins and Todd, 8 each in Butte and Corson, 6 each in Custer and Dewey, 5 in Tripp, 3 in Haakon, 2 each in Fall River, Lyman and Jackson and one each in Stanley, Gregory and Bennett.
