Sunday fire report – two fires start near Spearfish

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Great Plains Fire Dispatch says crews quickly jumped on a wildfire sparked Saturday evening outside Spearfish.

The Mill Fire was approximately 4 miles west of Spearfish on the back side of Crow Peak.

Federal, State and Local fire resources responded along with helicopters to dump water on the blaze.

The fire burned around 2.3 acres and was listed as contained Sunday afternoon. Lightning sparked the fire.

Another fire sparked over the weekend near Spearfish was named the Big  Hill Fire.

It was started by lightning about 5 miles south/southwest of Spearfish.

The fire burned around an acre as federal and state resources responded to contain it.
