RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police say an armed suspect has been apprehended after a seven-hour standoff near Pinedale Elementary Sunday.
At about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, law enforcement received reports of gunshots in the area of 5200 Pinedale Circle. The person responsible for the gunshots barricaded himself inside a nearby residence.
The Pennington County/Rapid City Special Response Team responded to the location. Police evacuated residents from the occupied home and surrounding homes as they made efforts to communicate with the suspect and de-escalate the situation.
After many hours of working to maintain communication with the barricaded individual, law enforcement lost contact with the suspect. Members of the Special Response Team made entry to the home and took the suspect into custody.
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Robbie Rombough of Rapid City, is charged with Simple Assault Domestic Violence, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault Domestic Violence, First Degree Burglary, Discharge of a Firearm at an Occupied Structure and Commission of a Felony with a Firearm.
