TEA, S.D. – The Tea Area Titans steamrolled the Sturgis Scoopers in a class 11AA matchup on Friday night, 52-0.
The Titans fumbled the opening kickoff, giving the Scoopers excellent field position at the Titan 26-yard line for their first offensive drive. But Sturgis turned over the ball on downs and Tea Area drove the ball 76-yards downfield in five plays, resulting in a 20-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Cael Lundin to open the scoring. The point after kick was good by Chase Van Tol and Tea Area led 7-0.
The Scooper offense couldn’t get going and the Scooper defense couldn’t stop the dynamic Titan offense throughout the first half. Tea Area had 372 yards of total offense through two quarters and led Sturgis 44-0 at the half.
The mercy rule went into effect in the second half with a running clock. Tea Area brought in their second string and scored once more with 4:48 to play on a 20-yard scamper by reserve quarterback Jessen Wiebenga, who then converted a two-point conversion with a pass to Ethan Vis to close out the scoring onslaught.
Tea Area (2-0) finished with 495 yards of total offense, led by senior running back Jaxon Weber who had 164 yards rushing and two TDs. Â The Titans had two fumbles and three penalties for 25 yards.
