Teen charged with reckless discharge of firearm requests lower bond

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City teen charged with assault and discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle was back in Seventh Circuit Court Tuesday to request a lower bond.

The lawyer for Roman Venegas argued while his client is 18, he “presents much younger” and serves as the full-time caretaker to his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

His attorney added he has no adult criminal history and is not a flight risk.

The request to lower the bond to $1,000 was denied and remains at $250,000.

Venegas’ co-defendant, David Venegas, was also set to discuss bond but instead set a next court date.

Both men will be back in court on April 29.

The charges against them stem from reports of gunfire that originated on Skyline Drive toward Kelly’s Sports Lounge on Jackson Boulevard in early January.
