Western South Dakota's Only Ranch Station

Teena Marie Sigman

Teena Marie Sigman, 65, of Sturgis, SD, died Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Monument Health Spearfish hospital.

Teena Sigman was born December 7, 1957 in Deadwood SD to Jim and Peggy (Horton) Sigman. At the age of 5 she attended the Crippled Children’s Hospital and School in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1965, Teena along with her twin sister, Teresa, were poster children for the Easter Seal Society of South Dakota, where they represented our State going to various functions such as teas with the Governor. She remained at the school in Sioux Falls for seven years. Her mother home schooled her on the family ranch in Bear Butte Valley where she was involved in an exercise program. Teena enjoyed being outdoors and wanted to be a part of what was happening on the ranch. She did not let her handicap slow her down.

Teena graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1976. She attended Black Hills State University for 2 years and then moved to Sturgis purchasing her own home.  She was a member of the Handicapped Citizens; serving as the State President in 1985. She was a member of the Choir in the First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon in 1982. She worked for a time at the F.O Jolley Funeral Home, Sturgis Public Library, the National Bank in Sturgis and an in-home phone answering service. Teena was also very involved with the Grace Lutheran Church, helping with the Church bulletin and helping serve meals to the needy.
Teena took a lot of pride in owning her own home and welcomed anyone that came to her door. Until Teresa’s passing in 2014, she and Teena visited on the phone every day laughing and sharing their thoughts and memories, especially the time spent in Sioux Falls where they made many memories and friends.

In July of this year, due to declining health, Teena moved into the Rolling Hills Healthcare Nursing Home in Belle Fourche, SD. She enjoyed her short time in the facility and especially enjoyed the visits with family and new friends.

Teena died November 29th 2023, just days before her 66th birthday.

Her survivors include her brother, Bryce (Sandi) Sigman of rural Sturgis; sister, Bekki Reinert of Wall; two nephews, Casey Reinert, Arizona and Cole (Jill) Reinert, rural Wall; three nieces, Breezy (Jon) Millar, Cassie (Ty) Hicks, both of rural Sturgis and Tabitha (Jess) Harris, Hot Springs; six great nieces and eight great nephews, as well as many friends and extended family members.

Preceding her in death were her parents, grandparents, her twin sister Teresa, younger brother Rick and six cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 5th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment follows at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
