Teenager arrested, charged in pedestrian fatality

WILMOT, S.D. –   A 20-year-old Summit, SD, man died early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle near Wilmot.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol identified the victim as Darius Christopher Small. He was walking southbound on SD Highway 123, approximately three miles south of Wilmot when a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe hit him at around 1:23 a.m.

The driver of the Tahoe, 19-year-old Alyssa Joan Feather of Wilmot, was not injured but was arrested on suspicion of DUI and other charges.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

According to court documents, the current charges against Alyssa Joan Feather:
* DUI .08% or more of alcohol in blood – in violation of 32-23-1
(Arrest on 07/28/2024)
* Driving with a suspended (not revoked) license – in violation of 32-12-65
* Seat belt violation – in violation of 32-38-1
