GILLETTE, Wyo. – The National High School Finals Rodeo continues in Gillette.
Thayne Elshere leads after the first go in the saddle bronc, as he turned in an 82 point ride – one point better than Hayz Madsen of Morgan, Utah.
Other South Dakotan’s sitting in the top five so far include Jaysee Jones of Howes, who is fifth in the goat tying; and Jestyn Woodward of Custer, who is fourth in the bull riding.
In the Team Standings, Texas leads the girls’ race with 1,155 points. Wyoming is second and Oklahoma is third. South Dakota is in 15th.
On the boys standings, Utah leads with Texas in second and Arizona in third. South Dakota is sitting in eighth place.
Texas leads the all around team standings with Utah second and Oklahoma third. South Dakota is 12th.
