RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol has reported two more fatal motorcycle crashes over the past 24 hours – one in Pennington County, the other in Lawrence County.
In the first crash, the patrol says the driver of a 1994 Harley Davidson Cruiser was traveling eastbound on Old Hill City Road when he lost control and began sliding on the right side, then flipped and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.
The driver was transported to a Rapid City hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He was not wearing a helmet.
The name of the person involved has not been released pending notification of family members.
The second crash happened near Nemo when a 2010 Harley Davidson traveling southbound near Estes Creek Road left the roadway, entered the ditch, and became airborne before coming to rest in the ditch. The 46-year-old motorcycle driver and a passenger were both ejected.
The passenger was life-flighted to a Rapid City hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver sustained fatal injuries. Both riders were wearing helmets.
The two accidents now bring this week’s fatal motorcycle crashes in the Black Hills area to four.
