Three new deaths listed in new COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – The weekly COVID-19 report is out today and state health officials listed 972 new cases – two more than last week.

Active cases are up over 300 to 2,546 and the number of people hospitalized was up slightly to 52.

There were three new deaths among cases over the past week, sending the state’s death toll to 2,931 since the pandemic began.

Around the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 244 new cases of the virus, sending their active case total to 604.

Meade County listed 33 new cases with 115 actives cases and Lawrence County had 49 new cases, sending the active case load there to 101.

Elsewhere around the area, Butte County had 10 new cases, Fall River County added 23, Custer had 22, Oglala Lakota County tallied 13 and there was one new case out of Harding County.

As of June 15, 41 of South Dakota’s 66 counties are listed as having “high” or “substantial” community spread. “High” community spread is 100 cases or greater per 100,000 or a 10% or greater PCR test positivity rate.
