STURGIS, S.D. – Three School Resource Officers at Black Hawk Elementary School will now have more authority thanks to new inter-agency cooperation between Pennington and Meade County.
Meade County Sheriff Pat West says the Pennington County School Resource officer deputies have never been sworn in by the Meade County Sheriff.
Although Black Hawk Elementary School is in the Rapid City School District, it is located in Meade County. Sheriff West says this is why they are swearing in the deputies – so they can make arrests if needed.
Sheriff West says this is an important step as it adds to the needed law enforcement coverage and inter-agency cooperation between his department and Pennington County.
Officers Abigail Pi, Jayson Herra and Jesse Fagerland were sworn in as Meade County officers by Judge Chad Callahan Tuesday afternoon.
