STURGIS — The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating an ATV accident Sunday that resulted in one man receiving serious injuries.
The patrol says the accident happened on Vanocker Canyon Road, about two miles south of Sturgis.
Authorities say the driver of a Polaris A.T.V. was traveling southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The A.T.V. rolled and came to rest in the west ditch. A 25-year-old passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He received serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken by air ambulance to the Rapid City hospital.
Two other occupants of the A.T.V. were wearing seatbelts. A 13-year-old passenger and 50-year-old driver sustained injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
The patrol says the accident happened around 4:00 p.m. near mile marker 15.
