Thursday’s COVID-19 report – twelve new deaths, active cases surpass 8,300

PIERRE, S.D. – Twelve deaths were reported and active cases soared back up over 83-hundred Thursday as the South Dakota Department of Health reported 809 new cases of COVID-19.

The new caseload includes 85 probable cases.

Active cases have increased by more than 1,000 this week and stand at 8,323 Thursday. Hospitalizations increased by 3 to 240.

There were a dozen new COVID-19 related deaths reported today. Four of the deaths were out of Pennington County and there was one new death in both Lawrence and Butte Counties. The state’s death toll is now 2,486.

New cases across the Black Hills area include 58 in Pennington County, where 4 of those were considered as probable.

Both Lawrence and Meade counties reported 11 new cases each and Custer County listed 9 new cases.

Elsewhere, Fall River County had 7 new cases and 4 new cases were reported out of Butte County.
