Thursday’s COVID-19 Update – over 600 new cases; two new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – The Thursday COVID-19 update from the Department of Health indicated 620 new cases of the virus with 178 of those listed as probable.

The active caseload across the state increased 243 Thursday to 6,750.

The number of people hospitalized dropped by 3 to 207 but two new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll since the pandemic began to 2,079. The new deaths were reported from Beadle and Pennington Counties.

Monument Health reports 94 people are being treated in their care centers for COVID-19. Of those, 26 are in the I.C.U. and 18 are on ventilators.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 114 new confirmed cases and 46 probable cases for a total of 160.

Lawrence County added the second most new cases today with 35 confirmed and 2 probable.

Meade County added 22 confirmed and 4 probable.

Elsewhere, Butte County had 19 new cases reported, Custer listed 8, there were 5 in Fall River, three in Oglala Lakota and one new case was reported in Harding  County.
