Titans Drop Tight One to Stars

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Sturgis Post 33 Titans played a solid seven innings against the Rapid City Post 320 Stars but the game came down to the last play, with the Titans dropping their second close game in a row to a tough opponent. Sturgis came out on the wrong end of a 5-4 defeat to Rapid City Post 320 on Saturday at Pete Lien Field in the final day of the Rushmore Classic.

Post 33 lead 4-2 headed into the bottom of the fourth inning when Post 320 plated a run on a single by James Furchner, scoring Hayden Leighty.  The Stars added another run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at four.  

Rapid City Post 320 closed things out in the bottom of the seventh when Lane Darrow singled on a 1-0 count, scoring Mason Mehlhaff to end the game.

Brady Fallon got the win for Rapid City Post 320. The hurler allowed no hits and no runs over two innings, walking one.

Conner Cruickshank took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out two.

Ridge Inhofer, Dawson Inhofer, Owen Cass, Beau Peters, Hunter Janzen, and RJ Andrzejewski each collected one hit to lead Post 33.

Rapid City Post 320 scattered nine hits in the game and were led by Darrow, who went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Stars.

Sturgis (11-18) finishes the Rushmore Classic with a 2-2 record. Post 33 is in action next on July 11 at Strong Field as they host Spearfish Post 164 in a doubleheader.
