RAPID CITY, SD — The Sturgis Post 33 Titans had trouble generating any offense against Pierre Post 8 at the Veterans Classic baseball tournament on Sunday, losing in five innings by the 10-run mercy rule, 16-3.
The Post 8 offense was clicking early, as Pierre put up 10 runs off seven hits through the first three innings.
The Titans got two runs on the board in the bottom of the third but Pierre exploded with six more runs in the top of the fourth to close out the Titans.
Sturgis could only manage four hits off Pierre pitcher Jett Zabel, who got the win for Post 8. David Anderson took the loss for Post 33. Pierre finished the game with 11 hits and were led by Jonny Lyons, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Sturgis (2-5) finished the tournament with two wins and three losses and are in action next weekend in a tournament at Yankton.
