Titans Fall to 406 Flyers Despite Furious Comeback

RAPID CITY, SD — The Billings 406 Flyers got out to a four-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 6-5 victory over the Sturgis Post 33 Titans on Sunday in the Veterans Classic baseball tournament.

The 406 Flyers pulled away with two runs in the third inning. In the third Brady Spaeny singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run and Michael Curl singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The 406 Flyers tallied three runs in the fourth inning. 406 Flyers batters contributing to the big inning included Brock Blatter and Curl, all driving in runs in the frame.

The 406 Flyers earned the victory despite allowing Post 33 to score three runs in the sixth inning. Sturgis Post 33’s big inning was driven by a single by Kain Peters, a home run by Ridge Inhofer, and an error on a ball put in play by Gage Murphey

Kyler Koppes was on the pitcher’s mound for Billings. The righty surrendered two runs on five hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one.

Dustin Alan toed the rubber for the Titans. The right hander lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out seven. Dawson Inhofer threw one inning in relief.

The 406 Flyers saw the ball well, racking up eight hits in the game. Blatter and Curl all managed multiple hits for Billings, with two hits each.

Inhofer led Sturgis with three hits in three at bats.
