ABERDEEN, SD – The Post 33 Titans made the long road trip to Aberdeen to take on the Post 24 Smittys on Thursday and came up short, losing 16-4, despite outhitting Aberdeen.
The Smittys took advantage of Titan fielding errors to lead 7-0 after two innings. Post 33 plated a run in the top of the third, when Jack Knutson scored on a fielders choice from third base. Aberdeen scored two more in the bottom half of the inning and led 9-0.
Sturgis starting pitcher Brand Matthews was pulled after three innings, relieved by Yaden Miller. The error bug kept biting the Titans, as the Smittys scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then five more in the bottom of the sixth on two hits to end the scoring onslaught.
Dennie Sudurhunel earned the win for Aberdeen, allowing nine hits on four runs over six innings. Matthews took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. The Titans had five errors and were led by Knutson, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Cooper Eisenbeisz went 3-for-4 for Aberdeen with three RBIs. The Smittys finished with six hits and one error.
The Titans fall to 5-19 on the Legion season and travel to Watertown today to take on Post 17 at 2pm.
