Titans Lose Fourth Straight

RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Post 33 Titans are off to a rough start in the 2023 American Legion summer season, dropping their fourth game in a row and second in just two days. Friday morning, the Titans squared off with the Colorado Rogue JV and lost, 6-2 in the Veterans Classic Baseball Tournament.

Titan pitcher Danner Craig walked five batters and hit one with a pitch in the first inning. Craig walked in a run and Colorado Rogue JV scored three runs on passed balls to take a 4-0 lead without a hit after one inning.

The Titans came alive in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on RBI singles by Aiden Wood and Conner Cruickshank, trailing 4-2 headed into the fifth inning.

The Rogue tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win. Sturgis Post 33 lost despite out-hitting Colorado Rogue JV four to two.

Bryce Grafton got the win for the Colorado Rogue JV. The pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Matt Stranberg threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Danner Craig took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. The pitcher lasted three and a third innings, allowing no hits and four runs while striking out six. Craig walked six and hit two batters. Jake Peters threw two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

Connor Cruickshank led Post 33, going 2-for-3 at the dish. Sturgis didn’t commit a single error in the field but couldn’t generate enough offense to get the victory. The Titans fall to 0-4 on the season and are in action again Saturday as they take on Lincoln at 9am and the Post 22 Expos at 4:30pm.
