Titans Pick Up First Win Over Canon City

RAPID CITY, SD – Sturgis Post 33 took the lead late and defeated the Canon City Tigers 7-6 on Sunday at the Veterans Classic baseball tourney, earning their first win of the season.

In the second inning, the Tigers got their offense started, plating two runs to take an early lead.  The Titans scored two of their own to tie the game headed into the third inning.

Sturgis scored two more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead, but Canon City scored three runs in the fourth inning to lead 5-4. The Tigers’s big inning was driven by singles by Trey Schumacher and John Vendetti.

The game came down to the late innings as Post 33 scored the go ahead run on an error by Canon City in the bottom of the sixth to get the win.

Dylan Christenson earned the win for Sturgis Post 33. The righthander surrendered six runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three. Beau Peters threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Bradley Loper started the game for Canon City and went four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out two. Nick Wilson threw one and one-third innings out of the bullpen.

Sturgis Post 33 saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Connor Cruickshank and Adam Flohr each collected multiple hits for the Titans.  Aidan Wood led Sturgis with three stolen bases.

Sturgis (1-6) is in action next on Tuesday at Strong Field as they take on Rapid City Post 320.
