SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — One of South Dakota’s top healthcare leaders tells Becker’s Hospital Review that the top two health problems the state faces are type 2 diabetes and obesity.
Dr. David Basel, vice president of clinical quality at Avera in Sioux Falls, says these conditions impact a significant portion of South Dakota’s population.
The two health issues can be interrelated, with diabetes often occurring in people who are also overweight.
Basel adds that they can be challenging for patients to manage themselves.
