Transfer hearing delayed in Sturgis murder case

STURGIS, SD – The latest motiions hearing was held Wednesday for a 17-year-old boy charged in the shooting death of a Wyoming teen.

Michael Gavin Campbell is currently charged as an adult with alternative counts of first and second degree murder in the death of Shaynna Ritthaller of Upton.  Ritthaller’s body was found in October 2019 in the basement of Campbell’s Blucksberg home east of Sturgis.

Prosecutors and the defense are goving over what testimony and evidentce will be allowed at Campbell’s upcoming transfer hearing.  His defense team wants to send the case to juvenile court.  That hearing has been set for May 22.

Campbell’s next motions hearing will be held March 13.
