Truck partially goes over retaining wall Sunday evening

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department, Meade County Sheriff and Meade County Emergency Management responded to a semi-truck incident in the truck stop lot behind the Big D Plaza off I’90’s Exit 32 Sunday evening.

Meade County Emergency Management says in a Facebook post that a truck had partially went over the retaining wall separating the lot from the ditch.

The incident ended up rupturing one of the truck’s fuel tanks, spilling some diesel.

Tow trucks lifted the front to pull the semi rearward, preventing further damage or spills.

The state Department of Environmental and Natural Resources has been in contact with the company to arrange mitigation of the spill.

No injuries were reported.
