Tuesday COVID-19 report – Active cases climbing towards 7,000; nine new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – The state Health Department released three days of numbers in their Tuesday report, where 931 new cases of COVID-19 were reported. Of those 931 new cases, 249 are considered as probable.

The Tuesday update includes numbers from Saturday and Sunday.

Nine new deaths were reported today, sending the state’s death toll to 2,318. Of the nine deaths, two were reported out of the Black Hills region with one out of Pennington County and one out of Butte County.

Active cases are again closing in on 7,000 as health officials report 6,950 today. Seven new hospitalizations have sent that total to 237.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 124 new cases, of which, 27 were listed as probable.

Lawrence County indicated 21 new cases and Meade County had 16.

Elsewhere, Fall River County saw a spike with 16 new cases reported, Custer County added 6 new cases and Harding County tallied one new case.
