PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 1,011 new COVID-19 cases and active cases saw a decrease of nearly 700.
In their Tuesday report, health officials reported 16,657 active cases of the virus, down 693 from Monday.
Also down, was the number of people hospitalized at 574 – a decrease of 8 from Monday.
Two new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 821. The two new deaths were one man and one woman listed in the 80-plus age range in Pennington and Ziebach Counties.
As for new cases West River, there were 267. Pennington County added 117 of those, sending their cumulative total to 7,960. Of those, 1,797 are active cases.
Lawrence County added the second most new cases Tuesday with 35. The county total rises to 1,869 with 375 active.
In Meade County, there were 28 new COVID-19 cases, sending the total to 1,617. Of those, 320 remain active.
Butte County had 16 new cases Tuesday, giving them a total of 675 with 99 active cases.
Other new cases across West River include 16 in Oglala Lakota, 15 in Todd, 9 in Gregory, 6 in Custer, 5 each in Fall River, Lyman and Tripp, 3 each in Stanley and Bennett, 2 in Corson and one each in Perkins and Mellette.
There were 2,497 new persons tested reported on Tuesday. The new person test positivity rate for Tuesday is 40%.
