STURGIS, S.D. – There were 50 new cases of COVID-19 according to the state Department of Health, and a decrease in the number of active cases.
Health officials report the statewide active caseload fell 86 today, as the number of active cases fell back to 1,060 from Monday’s 1,146. That means the state’s recoveries outpaced the number of new cases. A total of 932 new tests were reported on Tuesday.
There were low numbers around the Black Hills area as well today. Pennington County had just 2 new cases, Meade County reported 2 and Lawrence County reported 1.
Pennington County’s active cases fell 9 Tuesday to 112 and Meade County’s active cases also dropped one to 23. Lawrence County reported three new recoveries as the state’s active number of cases dropped to 30.
The number of people hospitalized dropped today as well. Health officials reported 57 people in the hospital due to COVID-19. That is down 6 from Monday’s 63.
The health department had no new deaths to report today, keeping the state’s death toll at 146.
