Tuesday’s COVID-19 report shows 1,027 new cases; four new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – Tuesday’s COVID-19 report from the State Department of Health indicated 1,027 new cases with 183 of those listed under the probable category. Today’s update includes numbers from the weekend.

Active cases declined slightly to 7,647 but the number of people hospitalized due to the virus rose by four to 250 Tuesday. Of the 46 people hospitalized within Monument Health facilities, all but 3 are not vaccinated. The health care provider also reports all 7 of their patients currently on ventilators are not vaccinated against the virus.

Four new deaths were reported today, sending the state’s death toll to 2,375. Of the new deaths, one was out of Pennington County, where the death toll there rises to 271 since the start of the pandemic.

New cases across the Black Hills included 114 total in Pennington County, where 4 of those were listed as probable.

Lawrence County added 26 new cases today, while Meade County reported 16.

Elsewhere, Fall River County tallied 12 new cases, Butte County added 11, Custer County listed 4 new cases and Oglala Lakota County had two.
