Tuesday’s COVID-19 update – 904 new cases, five new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials reported 904 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, with 183 of those considered as probable. Today’s totals include numbers from the weekend.

Active cases remained relatively stable at 6,534 and the number of people hospitalized because of the virus dropped by 7 today to 236.

There were five additional COVID-19 related deaths reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,294. The new deaths were reported out of Codington, Jackson, Minnehaha, Tripp and Walworth.

Pennington County had the most new cases across the Black Hills area with 131. Of those, 2 were considered as probable cases.

Lawrence County had 37 total new cases with one considered probable and Meade County had 27 new cases.

Elsewhere, Butte County had 13 new cases, Custer added 9, Fall River County listed 18 and Oglala Lakota reported 6.
