Tuesday’s COVID-19 Update – one death, 70 more positive cases

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 70 new positive tests for COVID-19 in its Tuesday report – with 64 of them coming out of Minnehaha County. An additional COVID-19 related death was reported today as well.

However, the state’s hardest hit county has now had two days of under 100 positive cases after several days over 100.

To date, there have been 1,469 total cases in Minnehaha County.

Neighboring Lincoln County recorded an additional 4 cases today, sending their cumulative total to 99.

There were no new positive tests reported in western South Dakota today. Pennington County, who saw their cumulative total rise one to 11 yesterday, reported an additional recovery, giving them 8 now fully recovered from the virus. Pennington County has 341 negative tests, Meade County has 55 and Lawrence County has 61.

The state’s eighth death is a male from Minnehaha County. The State Health Department would not release any further information about the individual, although an obituary for the person indicates the male worked for Smithfield Foods.

Recoveries are at 824, up 115 from Monday’s 709.

Active cases decreased for the third-straight day to 922, down from Monday’s 969.
