Update – Three dead in house explosion south of Fort Pierre

FORT PIERRE, S.D.  — Authorities in Stanley County are investigating a home explosion 11 miles southeast of Fort Pierre that has killed three people.

According to a GoFundMe page set up, Kelsey and Trevor Hupp were at work when the explosion occurred at their home along Highway 1806 in the Antelope Creek area southeast of Fort Pierre. The blast killed their infant daughter, Harper, and both of Trevor’s parents, Bill and LaDonna. Their sons Myles (5) and Royce (3) were airlifted to a burn unit in Minnesota. The blast also completely leveled their home.

Neighbors reported hearing the blast around 10:20 am.

The South Dakota State Fire Marshal’s office and Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the explosion.

A fundraising account set up for the family has raised over $150-thousand in less than 12 hours.

Stanley County Sheriff Brad Rathbun said yesterday that the cause of the explosion is unknown, but at this point foul play is not suspected.
