RAPID CITY, S.D. – Police in Rapid City say two people are dead after an incident that took place at an apartment complex in the 800 block of East Minnesota Street Sunday night.
Police responded to calls of shots being fired shortly after 5:00 p.m. and responding officers were reportedly fire upon by a suspect in a second floor apartment.
“One of our patrol cars has a bullet hole in the windshield,” said Sheriff Kevin Thom.
Officers entered the apartment building and engaged the suspect, who was shot and killed on the scene. Another individual was found on the second floor, suffering from a gunshot wound. Life saving measures were given to the individual, but were not successful.
Authorities were investigating the situation and no names have been released as of yet.
The Rapid City police department and the Pennington County sheriff’s office are cooperating with the state’s investigation into the shooting, a standard procedure whenever there is an officer involved shooting.
