STURGIS, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported two fatal crashes in their latest Rally Statistics Report issued Saturday.
The first crash happened at 6:00pm, Friday, on US Highway 14A, mile marker 11. The patrol says a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound left the roadway, entered the ditch, and tipped over. The driver was separated from the motorcycle. The 73-year-old male driver was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second fatal crash was reported just before 7:30 on Friday night at Norris Peak Road and Bogus Jim Road. The patrol says  a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound. The driver attempted to brake for a deer entering the roadway, locked up the brakes and left the roadway. The driver became separated from the motorcycle. The 62-year-old male driver was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two fatalities bring to 5 the number of people killed at this year’s rally.
There were also 7 injury accidents reported in the latest report, with three of them resulting in serious injuries.
The highway patrol has reported 109 D-U-I arrests, 212 misdemeanor arrests and 140 felony drug arrests on the year.
