RAPID CITY, S.D. – Tensions were high at the arraignment hearing Friday for a two men charged in the February shooting death of a woman.
Ezekiel Mayweather and Arkadius Wright face charges in connection with the fatal execution-style shooting of Esther Wolfe on a Rapid City street.
Wolfe’s family and friends were on hand today and had to be escorted out of the courtroom after they shouted obscenities at Mayweather and Wright, who attended the hearing virtually from a secure room at the Pennington County jail.
Wolfe’s killing followed the 2019 death of Wolfe’s boyfriend and her being in in a brutal kidnapping and assault.
Mayweather and Wright both pleaded not guilty, and in doing so, got an outburst from Wolfe’s sister who called them cowards. Afterwards is when she and the Mayweather and Wight families were escorted out of the courtroom for the remainder of the hearing.
Mayweather and Wright will return to the courtroom at a later date.
