OACOMA, S.D. – The 2024 Upper Midwest Urban and Rural Agriculture Innovation (UMURAI) Conference is fast approaching. The conference dates are set for Thurs.-Fri., Feb. 8-9, 2024.
Join the S.D. Specialty Producers Association (SDSPA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for a two-day, multi-state conference focused on producer education and small production operations at Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center at Cedar Shore in Oacoma, SD.
The UMURAI Conference is a premier gathering of agricultural professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts from across the region. The conference brings together experts and knowledgeable leaders to discuss the latest trends, innovations, and best practices in soil health, specialty crop production, livestock management, and rural and urban agriculture. Choose from a selection of sessions to attend, led by industry professionals.

Three tracks are held to help educate enthusiasts, producers, and farmers on innovative agriculture practices and resources. They include Urban Ag, Business Development, and Advanced Practices for Producers.
Meals will be served both days and are included in ticket pricing.
SDSPA’s Annual Membership meeting and board elections will be held in conjunction with the UMARAI Conference. Join us for the meeting on Thurs., Feb. 8, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. Central Time.
The meeting will include and overview of SDSPA resources and projects and the presentation of the ‘2023 Producer of the Year’ award.
The nominees are Rodney Peachey, Prairie Lane Farm, Newell, S.D.; Alan Carner, Black Hills Mushrooms, Rapid City, S.D., and Christy Heckathorn, Fleurish Flower Farm, Elk Point, S.D.
Votes will occur on bylaw changes as well as Board of Director elections.
