STURGIS, S.D. – It is Veterans Day, and the Meade 46-1 School District will be holding special activities, programs and assemblies to thank and honor those who have served or are serving in the military.
At Sturgis Elementary, the Color Guard will be on hand to play taps at the flagpole for the students at 8:45. An assembly precedes the performance at 8:20 for K-2nd Grade. The Third and Fourth grade students will have their Veterans Day assembly at 9:00.
The Veterans Day program at Sturgis Williams Middle School will be held at 2:00 and at 1:00 p.m. at Sturgis Brown High School.
The Whitewood Elementary will hold their Veterans Day program at 10:00 a.m.
At Piedmont Valley Elementary, their Veterans Day “week” will culminate on Friday with a great learning opportunity for students. A traditional Veterans Day program will occur at 9:00 AM.
Because they do not have a gymnasium or multi-purpose room with any seating, and due to limited capacity, this program will have to be limited to students only. So, unfortunately, it will not be open to the public. However, the school was reserving spots for Veterans who wanted to attend.
The event will also be live streamed on the Piedmont Valley Elementary PTA Facebook page.
At Stagebarn Middle School, a Veterans Day program will be held at 9:00 a.m. and the Central Meade County Schools will hold a 2:00 p.m. Veterans Day assembly.
