RAPID CITY, S.D. – Recent winter weather conditions have delayed work at Veteran’s Point area at Pactola Reservoir. The temporary closure of the area from this past week, March 25-29, has been extended for April 1-5, 2024, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
Veteran’s Point parking lot, Trail #56 at Veteran’s Point, and a .3-mile segment of Trail #89 (Centennial Trail) will be closed. This purpose of this closure order is to protect public health and safety due to timber service work being conducted in the described area.
The closed area is on the west edge of US Hwy 385 extending from the north end of Pactola Dam for one half mile to the north and then extending southwest from these points approximately 0.2 miles.
The closure order prohibits persons from going into or being upon the described area and being on the described closed trails except for:
- Persons with a special use authorization from the Forest Service specifically exempting them from the order,
- Any federal, state, or local law enforcement officer or any member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
