Maurice Edgar Fite, age 88, of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Memorial services for both will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Kadoka Bible Church in Kadoka with a visitation one hour prior.

Vickie Lynn Fite was born January 6, 1953, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the daughter of Laurence and Myrtle (Nelson) Rubottom. She attended school in Philip.

Vickie was united in marriage to Maurice E. Fite on August 28, 1965, in Rapid City, South Dakota. They made their home on a ranch 18 miles west of Kadoka all their married life.

Vickie enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very talented and loved sewing, crafts, flea markets, and traveling back and forth to Florida.

Survivors include her husband, Maurice of Philip; son Bryon (Tina) Fite of White Owl; daughter Vona (Todd Sieler) Fite of Wall; five grandchildren: Tracey Fite (Maurice Vocu), Casey (Arissa) Cuny, Lukus Fite, Kenda (Austin) Carroll, and Trenton (Emma Michael) Cuny; nine great-grandchildren: Tilden, Andi, Bridger, Myca, Braxton, Lynlee, Helen, Maurice, Ramona, and Nova; sister Karen (Terry) Pinney of Philip; brother Robert “Bob” Fite of Kadoka; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Laurence Rubottom; mother, Mytle Jacobson; adoptive father, Glen Fite; step-mother, Edna Rubottom; step-father Donald Jacobson; brother, Larry Fite; sister, Debra Rubottom at 2 weeks old; an angel daughter, great-grandson and great-granddaughter who all passed away at birth.

Maurice Fite was born April 23, 1935, to Aure and Roma (Searl) Fite. Maurice spent his whole life on the ranch. He loved fishing, hunting, pontooning, farming, and putting up hay. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Maurice was a very talented person who could fix anything or build anything. Who else could take a fire escape and turn it into a slide?! He was a generous person and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor or anyone else that might need a helping hand.

Survivors include his son Bryon (Tina) Fite of White Owl and daughter Vona (Todd Sieler) Fite of Wall; five grandchildren: Tracey Fite (Maurice Vocu), Casey (Arissa) Cuny, Lukus Fite, Kenda (Austin) Carroll, and Trenton (Emma Michael) Cuny; nine great-grandchildren: Tilden, Andi, Bridger, Myca, Braxton, Lynlee, Helen, Maurice, Ramona, and Nova; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vickie on February 22, 2024; his parents; sister, Barbara Diver; an angel daughter, great-grandson and great-granddaughter who all passed away at birth.

I am sure they are dancing in heaven to their favorite country song!

Arrangements are with Rush Funeral Home of Kadoka.
