WASTA, S.D. – There was more to celebrate than just the Fourth of July in Wasta, this year.
The Wasta Volunteer Fire Department announced it’s also celebrating raising enough money to build a new fire hall.
The donations came from people in the community and surrounding area. The Pennington County Commission also provided some funding.
By the end of the fund raising effort, $500,000 had been raised for the project.
Wasta Fire Chief Kyle Schell says small communities take care of each other.
”You know, small communities like Wasta everybody seems to look out for each other” Schell said.
The new Fire Hall and Community Room will start construction sometime this month.
