Weather cancels annual Mayor’s Ride; Day 2 Rally Stats

STURGIS, S.D. – The 83rd Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally continues today although the weather spoiled the 21st annual Mayor’s Ride.

The city and sponsor Jack Daniels decided to cancel this year’s ride due to the weather.

There were worries about slick roads and the possibility of accidents.

This is the first time the Mayor’s Ride has had to be cancelled due to the weather.

The ride raises funds for local emergency services, including the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department.

The weather also hampered Friday’s opening ceremony, where the Budweiser Clydesdales remained in their haulers and didn’t march in the opening ceremony parade.

Meanwhile, in Day 2 stats from the  City of Sturgis, 682 temporary vending licenses have been issued. This compares to 757 on day 2 in 2022.

The Sturgis Ambulance has responded to 38  calls for service.
