PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 453 new COVID-19 cases in their Wednesday report; with 90 of those considered as probable.
Active cases are up a little bit today to 5,464; as are the number of hospitalizations at 199.
Three new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,231.
Across the Black Hills, Pennington County had 65 new cases Wednesday with 7 of those listed as probable.
Lawrence County tallied 16 new cases and Meade County added 15.
Elsewhere, Butte County listed 13, Fall River totaled 7, Custer County had 3 and Oglala Lakota County reported 5 new cases.
Meanwhile, the South Dakota Department of Corrections is also reporting a COVID-19 outbreak at the women’s prison in Pierre.
There are two cases among staff at the facility and 8 are in the Women’s Prison, with another 9 in the Women’s Prison Unit-E. Unit-E is a minimum security unit located outside the perimeter of the prison fence. The remaining 4 cases are in the Pierre Community Work Center, which is also listed as part of the Women’s prison under the DOC facilities website.
