Wednesday COVID-19 update – Butte, Jones County each record first case

PIERRE, S.D. – The State Department of Health says there were 79 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday.

The new report shows 864 active cases statewide. That is down 11 from Tuesday.

Around the Black Hills region, Pennington County saw 16 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 606. There are currently 155 active cases.

Meade County reported one new case today, sending their cumulative total to 53 with 11 active cases.

Butte and Jones County both recorded their first case of COVID-19 today. The Department of Health says both cases are in a person in the 1-19 year age range – the same age range of the first case in Haakon County this week.

Oglala Lakota County recorded another 3 positive cases, sending their cumulative total to 103 with 34 active.

Other new western South Dakota cases include one in Fall River and two in Todd County.

There are currently 54 people hospitalized due to COVID-19. That is down 10 from yesterday.

No new deaths were reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 98.
