PIERRE, S.D. – New cases of COVID-19 Wednesday totaled 181 with 50 of them considered probable.
In their daily report, South Dakota Department of Health officials also reported another increase in active cases – up 18 to 1,993.
There are 97 people hospitalized as of today; that number is up 5 from Tuesday.
New deaths today totaled five, sending the state’s death toll to 1,893. None of those deaths were reported in the Black Hills.
Across the Black Hills area, there were 31 new cases including 20 in Pennington County.
Meade County reported 4 new cases and Lawrence County had 3 new cases.
Elsewhere across the Black Hills area, Custer County had 2 new cases and Butte and Fall River County each had one new case.
During their weekly conference call with reporters today, State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton says everyone should get the vaccine that is first available to them.
Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says over 229,000 South Dakotan have received the vaccine.
Locally, 17,631 people in Pennington County have received their vaccination with 4,026 in Lawrence County and 3,076 in Meade County.
