Wednesday’s COVID-19 report; 568 new cases, one new death, Monument Health Rapid City forced to convert regular beds to I.C.U. beds

PIERRE, S.D. – New COVID-19 cases totaled 568 in Wednesday’s report, with 154 of those considered probable.

Active cases increased by 101 Wednesday, totaling 7,364. Hospitalizations dropped from 215 Tuesday to 204 today and one new death was reported. The new death was a man from Pennington County in the 30 -39 year old age group. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths rises to 2,093.

Around the Black Hills area, there were 132 total new cases in Pennington County. Of those 132, 36 were considered as probable.

Meade County reported 24 confirmed new cases and 4 probable while Lawrence County had 21 confirmed new cases and 2 probable.

Elsewhere, Butte County reported 10 confirmed, one probable; Oglala Lakota County listed 8 confirmed, one probable; Custer County had 3 confirmed and one probable and Fall River County noted 3 confirmed and one probable.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations has increased in the Black Hills region.

Monument Health is reporting 99 COVID-19 patients with 29 I the I.C.U. and 24 currently on ventilators.

Western South Dakota’s largest health care provider says they still have no available adult I.C.U. beds and they are being forced to convert regular hospital beds into I.C.U. beds.

The bulk of those COVID-19 patients hospitalized are not vaccinated.
