Weekly COVID-19 Report – 167 new cases, three new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials reported 167 new cases of COVID-19 in their weekly report Wednesday. That is up a little bit from last week’s 127.

Active cases of the virus remained relatively stable at 412, but the number of people hospitalized dropped by nine over the past week to 38 today.

Three new deaths were reported. The total number of COVID-19 – related deaths eclipsed 29-hundred this week to 2,901. Meade County had one of the new deaths, sending it’s death toll to 64.

Across the Black Hills area, there were 38 new cases listed.

Pennington County accounted for 30 of them. As of Wednesday, there were 74 active cases in the most populous West River county.

Lawrence County added 5 new cases this past week and Meade County tallied 3. Lawrence County has 15 active cases and Meade County has 11 as of today.
